Of all the
thousands of Gods in the Hindu Pantheon, Ganesh is probably the most loved and
most identified all over the Globe, so I thought it befitting to dedicate Our
First Post to him...
Ganesh is
by far the most popular Deity to date and his popularity is reflected in his
presence in art and memorabilia, right from the classical to the somewhat
Kitschy representations in touristy knick-knacks. Nowhere can his presence
around us be felt more than in Tamil Nadu, with a small Temple or Shrine being dedicated to him.
Especially here in Chennai, One can easily espy his presence at every 3 Road
intersection, as he will be there, either in an elaborate Temple or a small decorative tile tucked away
on some wall.
As
Children the following Hymn is taught, dedicated to Lord Ganesh, the Remover of
all Obstacles:
"
Agajanana padmarkam gajanana maharnisam
Aneka dam
tam bhaktyanam eka dantam upasmahe "
Which
translates to : "Just as the face of his Mother is radiant like a Lotus in
bloom, upon looking at her Son Ganesh, so shall his grace be upon those to pray
to him, the single tusked one"
