According to World Bank, education is central to
development. It empowers people and strengthens nations. It is a powerful
“equalizer”, opening doors to all to lift themselves out of poverty. In Indian
context, spread of education is an important goal of the country as an
illiterate society can neither be informed nor very strong and capable.
Shekhawati, famous for being the mother of many successful industrial families,
doesn’t present a very bright picture as far as literacy and education are
concerned. Situation is even worse in terms of higher education. Lack of good,
quality education is a major impediment in the development of this area as few
local students are in a position to pursue higher education in big cities.
First member of parliament from Jhunjhunu, Late Sh.
Radheshyam R Morarka was deeply concerned at the lack of proper educational
facilities in the district. He realized that simple primary, middle and
secondary level education is not enough to equip Shekhawati’s children with
knowledge and abilities required to make them powerful enough to ensure a
prosperous future for their motherland.
His son, Sh. Gautam R Morarka too attaches highest
importance to education. He feels that in a globalized economy need for skilled
and well-educated young professionals is always going to be there, and regions
with better educational infrastructure would make the most use of this
opportunity. Educational empowerment is a requisite for financial and economic
empowerment. As a part of his vision for Jhunjhunu area, he decided to take an
initiative in this regard and came out with a proposal to construct a large
building for the government college in Jhunjhunu, which was then being run from
just four rooms. Fortunately, the state government accepted his offer and the
process of developing an impressive educational institution began.
The institution building which was named ‘Shri
Radheshyam R Morarka Government Post Graduate College’ was constructed by
Sewajyoti in a record time span of less than a year and was inaugurated by Ms.
Vasundhara Raje, the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan on 26th March 2006.
Former Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly, Mrs. Sumitra Singh and a large number of
local people witness the impressive ceremony, which was symbolized the
completion of Sewajyoti’s first big infrastructure project in the area. The
beautiful college building, based on Rajput architecture and costing Rs. 2.45
crore, accommodated 1500 students in the first year.
Rajasthan
government has twice recognised Sh. Gautam R Morarka's services in the field of
education by bestowing upon him the prestigious 'Bhamashah Award' twice. He
first received the coveted award in 2006 and then in 2011. It is given to
industrialists and social activists of Rajasthani origin who make significant
contribution to the field of education in the state.
Rising popularity among the students
With all the
modern facilities, labs and equipments, the college soon become very popular
among the local students who wanted to get admitted here and get quality
education. Long queues of students in front of Sh. Radheshyam R Morarka Govt
Post Graduate College building became a regular sight and media started
covering the college’s achievements in great detail. The college was given the
status of a graduate college initially, but in the very next year, Rajasthan
government decided to grant the it post graduate status in Science faculty. In
year 2010, another significant decision was taken by the state government to
increase the college seats by 300.
Sensing the increasing demand for space, Sewajyoti
undertook second phase of construction at the college building in 2010 building
a few new rooms and laboratories at the cost of Rs. 53 lakh. Today, the college
is performing very well on all fronts including academics, sports and cultural
activities. Sewajyoti remains closely associated with its functionaries and has
been awarding scholarships to the needy and meritorious students.
