With the glorifying motto "Sevarth
Katibaddhta" meaning Committed to Serve, Rajasthan Police truly following
the code of conduct. Rajasthan Police mission is to uphold the law, maintain
order and keep peace. Rajasthan police works in partnership with the community
to protect life and property, prevent crime and disorder, detect and apprehend
offenders and preserve a sense of security in the society.
History of Rajasthan Police
Rajasthan was formed by the merger of many princely
states. On 31st March 1949, the then home Minister of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai
Patel inaugurated Rajasthan state. But complete Rajasthan state came up in 1956
when all princely states added up to take a shape of present Rajasthan. To
maintain law and order of such a big state, police forces of the princely
states merge to form Rajasthan Police.
In the starting years, the Rajasthan police got its
first IG Shri. R.Banerji on 7th April, 1949. At that time Rajasthan Police was
headed by officers on deputation. Rajasthan Police Service was formed in
January 1951 and eligible officers from all over the State were appointed.
With a disciplined growth over the years, Rajasthan
Police excel in organisation, equipment, operational techniques, attitude and
outlook.

Women in Rajasthan Police
Rajasthan first Mahila Police Station was established in
March 1989 at Jaipur. Now there are 14 women Police Stations in Rajasthan at
Jaipur 3(Jaipur City North, South and East), Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bhilwara,
Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Pali, Alwar, Bharatpur, Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar. Cased
registered at these police stations are investigated by women police officers.
Also, for better supervision and monitoring of these cases, a cell has been
created in the CID(Crime Branch) headed by a Superintendent of Police.
Similarly, for better coordination at the district level, women cells have been
created in 22 district headquarters.
A monthly meeting is also held by the State Government
with representatives of different women’s organisations alongwith administration
and police officers to discuss issues related with problems of women. The first
woman R.P.S. officer was selected in October, 1979 and today there are 15 lady
I.P.S. officers and 27 lady RPS officers in the State. Now, women police
personnel are at par with their male counterparts and are imparted training in
drill, riot control, security duties and so on.
